lerfriendlyPWMgenerators.ThesePWMgenerators
arethemixedsignalcontrolblocksforSwitchmode
powersupplies.OnesuchdeviceistheMCP1630.The
MCP1630containsthe3mainelementsfordesigning
aswitchingpowersupplyasaperipheraltoamicrocon-
troller:aset/resetflip-flop,ahigh-speedvoltage
comparatorandanopamptoimplementtheerror
amplifier(seeFigure1).
ThemicrocontrollercontrolstheMCP1630throughits
clockinput.Thefrequencyoftheclockdeterminesthe
pulsefrequencyofthePWMoutput,andthedutycycle
oftheclocklimitsthemaximumPWMdutycycleofthe
output.Controlofthedutycyclebetween0andthe
maximumsetbytheclockinputisdeterminedbythe
currentfeedbacktothecomparatorandtheoutputof
